I visited CalArts today. Turns out they're closed on Fridays in the summer. Guess I'll have to wait until August to visit them when they're open.

I tried the Stitch Assist option on my camera and made two panorama shots of the field behind the parking lot, and the front of the school:

Back of Up Soundtrack

Rumors about the Up Soundtrack have been going around. They say Disney is not going to release a physical copy of the score in stores but it will only be available for download off the internet. As much as it will pain me if this happens, I will buy the tracks and burn them onto a CD. Down below I have started to design my own custom art for the case. I didn't want Up to be missing on my shelf of soundtrack cds. What I have now is the back. Disney has released their own FRONT cover so I will most likely try and find the highest quality photo I can of it and just use that.

Up Soundtrack

In my life, there are many things I am thankful for. One being a default soundtrack listener. I get a lot of inspiration for my ideas from hearing the cues of instruments. Thank goodness I can consistently listen to scores because it is very different compared to lyrical music. With songs with words, they define how the song should be taken. But with scores, the range of definition is endless so it leaves a lot of room for many interpretations. You can make up so many stories with background music! With that being said, here's to a great score from Michael Giacchino for Up!

Second Ever Character Face Sketches; Major

I believe my snake in a boot was my first ever character face sketch. Anyways, I'm starting to do these because I have seen them in my Pixar, Disney, and Ghibli Art Books. The animators and artists must make these to make sure the look of the character is just right with every different face expression. I cannot take credit for the different moods though. There is a list I made of moods and feelings so I draw the faces from that. Every time I draw these, I don't want the focus to be thinking up the moods, but the face expressions themselves.

BTW, I have decided to call these fetchers (character + face + sketches) so I don't have to type it all out when I post these.

Next time I promise to draw bigger. For some reason I always say I will draw big, but then I end up not!

Let it be known that today, May 13, 2009, I have decided my major to be: Character Animation.

Saddleback Circle K Shirt

Requirements were to create a design on a red/white striped shirt, add the three qualities of Circle K, the two logos and unify it all to be with the theme "Where's Waldo?: Where's Service?" The original logos contained too many colors that would detract Waldo's face as the focal point, so I went in and simplified them and just used red/white. For Waldo's face I simplified it to simple grays and (cleverly maybe?) added Saddleback's name onto his hat.

We'll see how much Saddleback likes this shirt!

Today in drawing we started using charcoal PENCILS. We've been using charcoal (sticks?) the last weeks.
Here is my drawing from tonight; I wish I darkened the bottom of the sphere more and was able to finish the stand it was placed on.
